Badge & History

The Monash District came about after an amalgamation of the Glen Waverley and Mount Waverley Scouts Districts on the 1st of January, 2004.

The need for the amalgamation was brought about by the desire to re-align the District with the local government authority boundaries; Monash Council having been formed in 1994.

It was decided that the youth of the District should have a say in what the new District badge should look like. A competition was held and many ideas were submitted. The final badge was decided upon as a combination of two entries, one from Dominic Durrant and the other from Glen Cooper, both from the Wirringga Scout Group. They had captured key elements from both the old districts badges. Special editions of the badges were manufactured for the members that were current at the time of amalgamation and those who joined within the first year, carried the year on the bottom of the badge.
